Vanessa Seward was born in Buenos Aires and grew up in London and Paris. After training at the Studio Berçot, she worked with Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel for nine years and then with Tom Ford at Yves Saint Laurent. She then joined Loris Azzaro in 2002 and succeeded him when he passed away in 2003. Hailed by the press and buyers worldwide for her audacity and creativity, she dressed many celebrities, including Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Kristen Stewart and Michelle Williams. In 2011, she left Azzaro to spread her wings and work under her own name. She has been collaborating with the A.P.C. ready-to-wear brand since 2012, designing a capsule collection each season.

On the silver screen, she created costumes for Valérie Lemercier and Fanny Ardant, and dressed the cast of the Les Parapluies de Cherbourg musical at the Théâtre du Châtelet.

Supported by A.P.C., Vanessa Seward launched her own brand in 2014 and presented her first collection for Fall/Winter 2015. It was an instant hit with the press and customers.

In 2015, two Vanessa Seward stores opened in Paris, one in the 1st arrondissement at 10, rue d’Alger and the other in the 3rd arrondissement at 7, boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, along with the online shop. With 2016 came the creation of two more stores, this time in the 6th arrondissement of Paris at 171, boulevard Saint-Germain, and at Melrose Place in Los Angeles. In early 2017, a fifth Vanessa Seward store opened its doors in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London. The interior design of all Vanessa Seward stores is entrusted to architect Laurent Deroo.
